LLB, Director, Solicitor & Barrister, Migration Agent
“People have mixed views about the legal profession. In my experience, the profession has allowed me to understand and connect with people in ways most professions don’t allow. I wanted to personalise that experience even more, that’s why I started Tempora Legal.”
I am the Principal lawyer at Tempora Legal and hold a Bachelor of Laws from Edith Cowan University, where I presided as the Law Society President for two years. I am also admitted to the High Court of Australia and I am a registered Migration Agent with the Department of Home Affairs (MARN: 2015825).
While I was at university, I represented ECU in international advocacy competitions in Belgium, Vienna and Hong Kong. I started my career in a small firm and continued to then provide legal services for one of the largest litigants in Australia and one of the largest Commonwealth Government agencies in Australia. I have recent experience working as a Senior Criminal Prosecutor and Senior Lawyer for a Commonwealth department where I continue to provide legal services alongside Tempora Legal. I have completed advocacy courses run by National firms and Senior Members of the legal profession.
Although I have “big corporate” experience, I haven’t forgotten the important stuff, the client experience. I fully understand that many people and small business owners find legal work stressful, frustrating and difficult to understand. Many people don’t know where to look to find an answer and, on the occasion they do, they often have no idea what the law means, how it applies to them or what their next steps are. Their main fear? – paying significant costs for a lawyer and still feeling overwhelmed or confused. It should not be that way. That’s where my passion for the legal profession comes in. Being able to advise and represent clients in resolving legal complexities in ways they can easily understand is, in my view, the purpose of the legal profession. You should feel comfortable with the quality and the price of the legal services you are being provided.
What my small firm and large corporate experiences allow me to do is to tailor my legal services across the spectrum of clientele, whether it be an individual, small business, corporate, government or agents and practitioners.
Having worked for one of Australia’s largest litigants, I have also had significant exposure to Perth’s (and Australia’s) legal profession, the Bar and have successfully resolved highly complex and litigious matters in various Federal jurisdictions and in Western Australia.
My advocacy and representative litigation experience extends to the: Perth’s Magistrates Court, Perth’s District Court, the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the Federal Court, the Federal Circuit Court and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. In these jurisdictions, I have experience advocating and advising on matters ranging from Government specific legislation, property, corporate and personal insolvency, breaches of contract and more.
In addition, I have also taken lead to attend to many dispute resolution options from informally resolving matters through negotiation, to leading conciliations and mediations. I have a keen eye not only for litigation risk and settlement parameters, but how to personally approach disputes with other human beings and knowing when to “throw the book”.
